Neurological Physiotherapy

Active Health Physio provides Physiotherapy support for the following neurological conditions:

  • Stroke (cerebrovascular accident)
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Head injury
  • Parkinsons disease
  • Guillain-Barre syndrome
  • Spinal surgery

An initial neuro-physiotherapy assessment is required to help identify your hopes and goals as well as to determine your current level of physical activity and function. Then we discuss solutions for supporting our clients with a programme to optimise independence with physical activities. Getting the right advice is important for self-management and prevention of secondary complications that can occur with long-term neurological conditions.

The goals of neuro-physiotherapy are to improve or maintain movement and independence to do activities of daily living, as well as increase quality of life. Everyone’s goals are different and while Physiotherapy programmes for neurological conditions are specific to each individual they often incorporate some or all of the following as appropriate:

  • Strengthening
  • Stretches
  • Balance and mobility retraining
  • Improvement of fitness
  • Spasticity management
  • Assistive technologies (ie: functional electrical stimulation)

The overall aim of Physiotherapy input for neurological conditions is to support your courage to continue and get on with life!

Physiotherapy can be provided in your home or at one of our locations in Edinburgh and Musselburgh. Family members or carers are welcome to be present during physiotherapy sessions if they would like to receive guidance on how they can support your programme.
